Nassim Road House from Studio Milou is located in one of Singapore’s finest streets. This multi-generational residence was inspired by client’s appreciation of the vertical and monumental attributes of forests, and the rich minerals that hold them in place. It comprises a modern three-story villa and a 240 sqm clubhouse that fronts the road. The different volumes are set in a hilly slope, interspersed among spacious landscaped gardens. Its impressive glass walls and a colonnade composed of concrete elements that rhythmically surround the buildings and the organic limits of the plot, blend the architecture with the foliage and the dense greenery.
Without any transoms or structural barriers, panoramah! massive glass doors and the corners with silicon-joint glass-to-glass overlaps offer the perfect visual transparency for this setting. While the 8-meter-tall motorized glass doors of the clubhouse, over 1000 sqm in total, with its smooth operability despite weighing over 2 tons per pane, provide the physical continuity of the triple-volume glazed pavilion with the surrounding gardens. In a surprising scale, it explores a multi-layered threshold with the undifferentiation between indoor and outdoor spaces that characterizes oriental architecture.
