Cowichan Gold is always clear-all heart, which means it is cut from the very best part of the tree and contains no knots or sapwood making its texture very uniform. An ideal companion for red cedar shake shingles.
Cowichan Gold is always vertical grain. There is no mixed grain or flat grain permitted, making each piece very consistent. Vertical grain lays flat, is more dimensionally stable and reduces cup or split. Cowichan Gold can be left natural for consistent weathering or its vertical grain provides an excellent base for stain or paint.
